And here another pen with urushi lacquer.
The lacquer I call Kujaku-Raden. Kujaku = Peacock, Raden = Sprinkled Mother of pearl.
Small abalone plates are set on wet lacquer. After drying, many layers of lacquer saturated with gold powder and copper powder are applied followed by layers of red, black and transparent urushi. After grinding flat, a final coat of highly transparent urushi seals the surface.
