If I mailed a letter to our neighbor at our local post office, it goes 30 miles to Chattanooga and then back. When we first moved here, the post office had two slots in the lobby- Local and Out of Town.
My uncle experimented back in the early 60s. He lived south of Philly. Mailed two items- one to the north side of Philly and the other went to a city a long way off. The item took longer to go from one side of Philly to the other than to the other place.

I once had a package leave Texas, then Arizona then fell off the map. About a week later we tracked it and it went to Oakland Ca, then Sacramento Ca then Guam. Needless to say we never got the package but the seller did make good and resent the item. When I questioned the USPS they just kind of shrugged. It was supposed to be in Montana in 3 days. I could have kicked the package from Texas to Montana by the time it made it to Guam. But, this is the exception I usually get my stuff via USPS within 4-5 days.

What was that Kingston Trio song about the guy on the MTA ?

Went to ride on the USPS
Well, did it ever return?
No it never returned and it's fate is still unlearned (what a pity)
It may ride forever on the trucks of ....... (Didn't come up with anything here.)
It's the package that never returned.

Well it spent 2 days back in Philly on to who knows?

I'm still waiting for a SFRB from another IAP member that USPS claims was delivered on the 14th of Jan. Don't know where it was delivered to, but USPS claims it was!

That's the game my local PO plays.
They scan it as delivered an leave it lay in the post office.

Almost thinking about a security cam pointed at the mailbox to prove they didn't deliver it.
Wouldn't accomplish much though.
The local post master lady just covers for her buddies.

I even went to the PO and showed the status of delivered and asked to her face where is it ?
She went in back and found it.

Well the tracking shows it's in town.

But the fat chick has marked it as "No access to delivery location."

AKA: doesn't want to deliver it.
