Lignum Vitae xcut. The timber for this pen came from a chief engineer I sailed with in the Australian Merchant Navy. The timber came from the bearing block for the stern tube on the SS Iron King in 1963, This was his first position as Chief Engineer, The timbers we removed for renewal in The Newcastle dockyard.

The pen was polished up to 12kmm Micro Gloss, PlastX and then Nova, the kit is a rose gold EB from Timberbits.

Due to the natural oil that exudes from the timber it has been very difficult to get the finish to adhere. The finish is 20 coats of WOP over 1 coat of Shellawax Glow highly burnished.

The pen will be going to the Chief you gave me the timber.

First picture is of the vessel SS Iron King

It's nice to hear stories like this, of pens made from a special piece of wood. The Chief should be delighted when he sees this. Awesome pen.

The pen is gorgeous looking. I love to see pens made from historical woods particularly when you can see the picture of the historical item like you posted. The finish is awesome. Great Job!!!!
