I made my first redwood pen last night, and it came with two lessons:
1) it comes out beautiful! The camera doesn't show the full detail, and
2) use tons if CA near the ends of the barrels! This stuff is so old and dry that it chips out easily.

Other than the obvious flaws, C&C are welcomed and appreciated. This pen chipped out enough at the ends that I'm just going to have to keep it :)

That's a good point Jim. I think I will buy some Cactus Juice before I turn more of the redwood. After all, I built my pressure/vacuum pot, bought the vacuum pump, and... never bought the resin! It will give me a reason to pick up the curly, holy piece of crotch wood I pass on the side of the road so many times a day too.

Very nice figuring on the redwood. It has a nice rich tone as well. Nice. Other than the chip out, the finish is nice as well.
I've heard before that old CA often causes problems. I guess the solution is to crank out more work so you use it up before it can get old
