What is a good rule of thumb for the height of the lathe spindle to the floor. I'm thinking my lathe table is a little high but before I go to the hassle of lowering it I want to know what the "ideal" height is. I'm about 5'9".

From what I've heard everyone is different.......spindle should be at the same level as your elbow. Some may like it a little taller and others a little lower. But, that's the rule of thumb!

Your tools should hit the center of the work piece with your elbow at a 90 degree angle. If you are pointing up with the tool, the lathe is too high. If you are pointing down, it's too low.
