Last Saturday we had a demo at our club by Fred Dutton. He was very good and afterwards he coached ten of our members including myself through the process. I have never turned anything this thin (well not on purpose anyway) before.

the curve was done by placing the hat upside down in a wooden handscrew/clamp, snugged up lightly. rubberbands are run from one side of the clamp over the top to the other side of the screw. i misted water from a spay bottle a couple of times a day for the first two days. after the third day it was placed under a shop light with a sixty watt bulb for four hours then final sanded a four coats of Deft spray lacquer were applied.

Something I have wanted to try,, someday, when I'm a better turner. Very nice job on that one. I bet it gets a little scary going so thin. Congrats on a nice job.
