Jr. Gent Twist Pen

Some time ago I made a pen and pencil set using a Junior Gent kit. Recently the twist pen will not stay out in the writing position when the pen is together. It works just fine with the cap off when I twist it by hand. It seems to be slipping in the top. Has anyone else experienced that and if so was there a fix you'd recommend? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Seems like the twist transmission is similar to a cigar. Perhaps someone has had a similar issue with that style?
