Has anyone found or tried making a new, better hand wheel?

The size of the wheel and the crank on it makes it pretty uncomfortable when drilling a lot of blanks.

I remember Nova (TeknaTool) used to offer one for their machines just for that reason. I don't know if they would fit your Jet or not. You could always look through Grainger's website to see if they make one that would fit.

You can turn a larger handle for it, I've heard of guys doing that for hand wheels and tailstock locking handle to extend and/or make larger

I think Mr Beall with Beall tool made a large wood tailstock hand wheel for his Jet 1014. Seem to me the same could be done for the 1221, remove the wheel, and create your own wheel so it will mount the same as the original did.

I'm on the road working, but planning to take a look at how it's attached when I get home. If it's a thread I can duplicate, or just a set screw, I think the DIY route might work.
