Not real sure about the wood I think it might be pecan,but I am sure of one thing,it's sap wood and bark(thus the name)most pens I see that looks like this is sap and heart wood,anyway it was fun to make.

Sapwood and Bark combo, very much like that idea / concept. I need to find me a nice size walnut tree I can cut blanks with this concept in mind. Walnut bark layers have beautiful color variation...
