If the CSUSA catalog is pen porn, I just discovered a bacon mine!

Visited a scrap yard yesterday and bought taps, reamers and drill bits by the pound. There were 2 55 gallon drums full of the stuff and several 5 gallon buckets of carbide cutters and bits. A goodly amount of the parts were unused! Also got some stainless scrap rods to practice with the new-to-me 60 year-old lathe.

They just opened a casino in Columbus - forget that place. I just found a sure thing - with new stuff every day. Now I have a metal monkey on my back.

:monkey: (In a monkey voice) "Wonder what came in today? Better go check."

I've got a variation on that old Steve Martin bit about giving up marijuana:

"I'll only visit the scrap yard once in the morning. And in the mid morning... and in the early mid morning... and in the mid-early-late mid morning... and in the and in the late-early-mid-late-mid morning..."

Do you wish to share with your fellow Columbus area friends or is this one of those private gold mines? :)

Are the taps something that we as pen makers would use?

Sounds like it would be fun to check it out.

Thanks. I have driven by there many times.

I guess it looks like it would be more for those with a metal lathe. I can see how it would be a good source through for you.

(I think I need a reason to buy a metal lathe now)

Chris, we have a place here in the NW like that where you can buy surplus tools, machinery, material, metal of all kinds and sizes, and the list of stuff goes on and on. It's the Boeing Surplus store. It's an industrial thrift store on steroids.
