…will get you every time. I needed to turn three pens as last minute gifts this morning. I turned three and it went very well. So well, I thought man you are good and decided to turn a fourth one. it continued smoothly until I was making one last pass and of course blew it up.

I blow things up primarily because I'm either pressing to finish in a hurry, or I get overconfident and do something that I know is risky. More rarely it's because I'm simply careless (like the other day hitting a piece with the corner of the tool rest).

I do everything in pairs. If I'm going to cast something, I cast enough for two of whatever I am making. If it's wood, I will make sure I have enough for 2 pens, just in case.
