I don't really have time for any pen making because my lathe is 3 hours away. But I managed to squeeze out a nice pen with a new type of blank. I took a piece of burl that I would have used to cast on of my rainburl pen blanks, and made a mold around it. Then I cast it, and flip it around in my normal size mold to make a normal size pen blank. I am making some different colored blanks to sell.

Thanks James, for your post and explanation.
Though I must admit, I can't see why the double casting, but it's early in the morning and I haven't had my coffee yet so the brain cells are not in gear.
Love the result though, your pen is striking.
Excellent Fit, though in the Photograph, the finish seems subdued, is that correct and the Finish you were seeking?
Great work.
Brian.

Great with thinking outside the mold. I like the thought. Not keen on the colors, but many applications for this process.

Yea, I only had one blank made, so I went with it. But I am making blanks with cooler colors to sell.

Hi James: Good to see you still have time to cast and turn! I like the pen--the orange is rather bold, so it draws your attention.
