I'm going to be making a 10 inch peppermill and it'll be my first. I think the instructions suggest a 2 1/2 inch diameter, is that about the average size? Sounds a little narrow to me, but like I said, I've never made one.
What diameter do you make yours?

I made a few 8" mills in Dec. I think 2 1/2 is a little too small a diameter, I am thinking 3 - 3 1/2 may look and feel better. I will experimenting with this later in the spring.

It's personal preference, but remember you are selling to a lady. They are not, generally impressed by HEAVY.

All of mine are between 2.25 and 2.75---but that's just my personal preference and knowing what sells---YMMV

i think that's kind of a personal question, but starting with a 3" blank is usually what i am for to start but often finish closer to 2 1/2 or so.

Mine are also generally in the 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 range. I think as you get to 10 inches and taller it looks more balanced to be a little thicker unless you're intentionally going for a "delicate" look.
