I've been asked to convert some brass from a funeral salute into pens from a co-worker of mine. All I know is they are from a M-14 and the brass is stamped with C L 1 1.

Anyone have any experience and direction in converting those into pens that could help me out or know of a kit that would work?

I'd prefer to utilize a bullet tip and am willing to purchase those if need be.

The headstamp "LC 11" means that the brass was manufactured by the Lake City Arsenal (the government contract branch of Federal Arms) in 2011.

I've converted both 7.62 NATO and 30-06 Sprg blanks to bullet pen kits. Each has its own challenges. The M-14 rifle is chambered in 7.62 NATO. The blank brass is different than regular brass (in shape and wall thickness) so it needs to be trimmed and reamed before seating a drilled bullet.

See http://www.penturners.org/forum/f14/21-gun-salute-pen-kit-60184/ for an example.

I hope that helps,
Eric
