Hey everyone. My name is Brett and I've been turning for about a year now. (That really sounds like an AA introduction)
I started out buying a Ridgid lathe off of craigslist for just over a hundred bucks. No tools with it, but it looked to be in new condition even though the previous owner said he had several hundred hours of turning on it (by the look of his shop, it's true). So I bought some tools and got to making square sticks round and lots of high grade dust. The quality at first was pretty high, I like to think, I spend a lot of time on the finish. Then for some reason things got sloppy and the finishes took the brunt of it. Now I'm back with more precision, better tools, and a bit more patience.
I now turn on a Rikon 70-100 and Sorby tools are infiltrating the shop one at a time.
here are a few pictures of things I've turned. I have only turned one pen in the last 4 or 5 months as I was away for three of them. I better get busy, there are 20+ kits waiting.
spalted holly burl taken from a bush next to my house. Stabilized in minwax wood hardener.
tap handle out of hard maple
bottle stoppers
