I started turning pens in April of this year after my brother gave me a few lessons. To date I have made about 20 pens, most from standard purchased wood and acrylic blanks. Recently I started making my own blanks and have had moderate success. As with all things it takes practice, practice, practice and loads of patience. Attached is a pen I turned this week..our Dentist is retiring in August and I thought it would be nice to give him one of my pens as a retirement gift. I wanted it to be something special, so I cut a "tooth" from Hard Maple and then cut the tooth shape in Mahogany. I think it's a perfect pen for a Dentist.
