I have been a handyman contractor for the last 25 years, so have a lot of experience with wood - but not so much on the fancier side. Finally dedicated a spot in my shop/garage for a permanent place so my lathe is more readily available - hard juggling tools in the small area. For hobbies I have an Incra Ultra Jig and Leigh D4 for making jewelry boxes and business card holders. A few years ago I purchased a lathe without variable speed - changing belt positions for me is a pain - especially with my arthritis and lack of room (hard to get in to the side/back to change belt position), so just purchased a Jet 1221 variable speed with reverse. Building a movable stand to get it out in the open. Planning on doing mostly pens and small bowls, but who knows - love to experiment. I am an avid reader and study a lot (especially instructional books) before doing anything.
