Have you seen Amboyna Burl prices

I went into Gilmer Woods here in Portland Oregon to get some Amboyna Burl and also Makamong.

I picked up a 18 3/4 stick and asked the price. $100, I was told. Last summer, I bought one twice this size and was 1st quality wood. This stick was nice, but not 1st quality. Not covered with eyes.

the same guy told me last summer that prices on Amboyna was going up, but I had not expected this kind of increase. Makamong is no longer available at this time(at least not from Gilmer.

My Amboyna Burl pens just went up. And also another good reply when people say our pens are too high. Not that that matters terribly.

Looks like you could cut up one of these bowl blanks and save a bit. You could ask if they have any whole burls because when I was in there a year or two ago and they had a pile of burls that would fill a dump truck.

Yes good idea, but I usually have bought the +++ grade/or top grade with lots of eyes and maybe a bit of sap wood. USED to is the operating word here.

Looks like ebay has better prices, but still not top grade.
