Good job!

If the wood is a really hard wood I'll often use just friction polish as well. For the softer woods and burls, I favor CA in order to seal them up well, and you can still adjust how shiny you want to make it simply by stopping the micromesh progression earlier or later to suite your taste.

Thanks Dave. I made a pen out of some pine the other day. No way would I not use CA on that soft wood. The piece in the pic above was really shining after 600 grit. I went up to 1500 grit and then the friction polish. Its so smooth it almost feels like a CA finish. I'm really happy with this one.

Just a point or two about the friction polish. Yes it looks nice and feels like real wood but it will gather dirt and oils from the hands and some woods look grundgy after awhile. If I were to go for thast satin look I still would CA it and knock it back with some nonwoven pads. Just an opinion.
