It can be done....
I wish I had photos of it but I lived in a two bedroom apt in Oregon where a large double sliding door closet was turned into a shop. In that space I had a 16 Inch Metal Lathe, a benchtop Ryobi Drill Press a delta 9 inch benchtop bandsaw and some other misc tools, jigs, rigs, storage spots, lights, etc....
I built up a heavy duty plywood "floor" that covered the closet floor inside and extended outside the closet by 2 or 3 feet to the front and 2 feet on either side. This allowed me to put things on rollers and roll them out, use them, roll them back, plus helped with wood chip control.
Lastly I had a good old fashion shop vac with several extension hoses which I sat out on the patio and trailed the hose around the corner to attach to whatever device I was working on.
This worked pretty well and even left room to add a few more things had I been so inclined.
