I had the fun of attending the Ohio Pen Show today. Met lots of great people and was able to see a lot of cool vintage pens and some made by very skilled turners. George (Texatdurango) was there and was gracious enough not to make too much fun of me with my fountain pen ignorance. :) Nice guy!

While there I was able to hold a $5500 fountain pen in my hand. I had no idea it was $5500 until the guy told me. It was a Gisi pen and they had a set there that were all Steampunk. They were really cool. Not really what I would call pen turning though. More like pen assembly or carving. All of them were really cool designs and if you really like Steampunk I could see how you would love to add it to your collection. I don't think you would write with them though. They were not really that comfortable to hold.

Seeing all of the really cool pens and designs really has me excited about trying new things. Maybe one day I will not be too embarrassed to have a table there.

Here are the pictures of the Gisi pens. They sell at Penopoly.com.

I can appreciate the time and detail invovled, but those just don't trip my trigger. I guess I am more of a classy wood kind of guy.

I wonder if we should post pictures of other's pens unless we have their permission. And permission to post may well have been given. But, it seems to me Mark and Brian Gisi would post pictures of their pens if they wanted them posted here. Just saying...
I'm not trying to start an argument or come on like the "posting police" but I've just been thinking.... We owe each other some courtesy. If I'm out of line then I'm sure I will hear about it.
Do a good turn daily!

Don, yep, you are out of line :)

People are taking photos of pens all day long here, me, I just stare and drool over some of the pens! :) Gisi or not, anyone having a problem with someone taking photos of a pen at a show should stay home!

Since one of their dealers is showing the pens, I doubt they would mind.... Just guessing though

I never thought of them not wanting me to post them. Hope they are not bothered by it. If so I will take them down. I posted out of sincere admiration though. I was floored when I saw them.

I did talk to the shop owner and he said that Mark (I think) made these for him and it took around 30 hours for each pen to be made. The craftsmanship is really amazing. You would think they are heavy but when I picked one up they were surprising light.

Well I am like Adam. I understand the time and craftsmanship involved in these pens but I personally don't like them and they look like they would not be very comfortable to hold in your hand and try to write.

Don,
You are not out of line in voicing you concern, but there shouldn't be a problem. After all, if the Gisi's didn't want people to see their pens they wouldn't display them at a pen show. It would be nice if they posted their work here and became a more active part of this community. They are very inspirational.

Thanks George. Been out of line many times. I didn't post just because the pens were made by one(or both) of the Gisi duo. I just thought maybe is was inappropriate for pictures of pens to be posted like this. Guess I am not up on my pen show etiquette. So, I guess shoot away and post. Me, I would not do it. I might take pictures for my own use but would not post without permission.

I don't think they need to be taken down and I did not intend to offend you. I was just concerned but seems it is okay. My bad!

The style of those pens actually appeal to the SiFi fan in me on several levels. And I can see someone with similar interests, and money to spare, taking one of those home for their collection. Unfortunately I only have one of those qualifications and it's not the money.

The pens that the Gisi's make are absolutely fabulous in style , design and look. I would love to have one in my collection but and there is always a but LOL. These pens are just pieces of art that can be used as a pen. It is not a pen that looks comfortable enough to be a day to day carry pen. Just my opinion. I would still love to own one

Ron it is really no big deal. Penporium frequently offers the Gisi pens on eBay. In fact if you search Gisi on eBay you will find several on there now. If they did not want photos online they certainly would not offer them on eBay.

I posted their link to that in the last contest posting we just went through. Not my style either. Love to see in person but would not buy. Lots of work I am sure.
