I got a surprise from Surprise Arizona, Joe L drew my name in the pen blank swap so here is the first of his blanks he sent to me, I'd always thought about doing one of these whiskey barrel stave blanks, but never got a round to it, and I also finally broke down and bought some zen kits. Here is my first Zen done on a certified Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel stave which is some nicely grained White Oak. it smelled nice while turning it.

Ken,
That is a sharp looking pen. I am really starting to like that pen style, it shows off the wood so well. Great job, I like the subtle finish as well.

The pen looks great. I have concerns about that certificate of authenticity, however. Assuming that JD didn't approve the use of their trademarked image and the last sentence.
