The wife was out the other day and saw a tree down and chopped up. She checked with the owner to see if I could get a few pieces. I picked up a few interesting crotch pieces. This is the result of one of the blanks I cut. The wood was mostly a yellowish tinge and I suspect the darker colours are from overheating in the microwave while I was drying the blanks. A friend thinks it may be willow. Turns out the owner of the tree is a reporter for our local small town rag. This pen will go to her. Never know may get some almost free publicity.

The pen turned out beautiful. Ive never worked with willow but if it holds that grain potential, Im going to have to find some. She is lucky to receive such a fantastic gift.
