When I was shopping for my lathe I picked up a bunch of these segmented blanks from Woodcraft for $1 each. They aren't fancy, just straight layers, but I thought they might make something interesting and for $1 each I wasn't out much if they turned out to be junk.
This is also the first pen/pencil that I've done complete from start to finish. I cut the blank with my little HF cutoff saw, drilled it on the lathe with a scroll chuck (hence why it's not completely centered) and then shaped and assembled the pencil. The wood was finished with Shellawax and Hut Crystal Coat and the pencil hardware is Rhodium. It's unique for sure.
Let me know what you think.
