I purchased a few red ebonite rods about a month ago and decided to see what ebonite is like to turn. Strange stuff...gotta have really sharp tools, sand real carefully, keep the heat down, did I say use really sharp tools? Oh yeh...watch the chatter, did I say use really sharp tools?

A chrome El Grande rollerball, in red ebonite.

Looks like you did better on your first piece of ebonite than I did on mine.:)
I struggled with light sanding marks in the finish. Finally took a lighter touch and had a better finish. Nice one.

Looks good. Made one once and loved it, but smelled like a rubber tire on fire. Not sure when I'll get the others made now. Lol

I just picked up two pieces of that at the pen show in DC last weekend. Got an all black and a blue/red/white piece as well as some cellulose.

When the guy told me that the cellulose could explode/burn if I went to fast cutting it on my band saw all I could think was..."oh, the possibilities".

Explosive pen blank, that gets a Marine excited.

Looks great, I am using a woodchuck, hope that handles it.
