I have a blank with some wood embedded in it. It is Alumilite. How should I finish it? To put a nice finish on wood I would use CA, but what about when part of the blank is resin? Will the CA still work?

Thanks!

Yes, CA works. Did for me anyway.

Excellent news, thanks!

Do you sand the blank before adding the CA? If so, to what grit?

Nice pens!

Chris, when it comes to CA there are 100 ways to do it, but this is how I do it for these types of blanks. Once you are done with the turning and before you start sanding, with the lathe off, dribble some thin CA on the wood portion and with one of those baggies from the pen parts put it over your index finger and hand turn the lathe while holding the bag against the CA. The goal is for the wood portion to absorb some of the CA. Let in cure and then start your sanding, You can start at around 400 but if the CA stayed smooth you can start higher. Once you sand stop the lathe and see if you have any areas that did not absorb CA, if see any then do the CA thing again. After that just do your normal dry sanding and CA routine.
