A few months ago, a local chef at my favorite restaurant gave me a bit of fruit cherry wood that he used to smoke meats with since he knew that I "did stuff with wood like this..."
So after a bit of subtle quizzing and a bit of drying and just a little work, I came up with this to give to him.
The kit is a satin nickel european that I got at my local Woodcraft, and I wet sanded the wood with a bit a walnut oil to darken the figure just a bit. It lightened back up considerably after wiping with DNA to remove the excess walnut oil and I was quite happy with the results.
While I like the speed and durability of a CA finish, I wanted to do something different and provide a "warmer" touch to the pen. I used a satin finish polyurethane for 7 coats which I then micromeshed to 8000. The pen has a nice feel and I will check back periodically with Chef David to see how the finish holds up.
Thanks for looking and C&C are welcomed.
