Ron, very nice. The porous part is probably because elk antler is much larger in diameter than deer so by the time you turn down to pen dimensions you are way into the pith. Some here don't like the fact that porous stuff shows when they turn and fill with stuff like CA and shavings or whatever. My thought is that this is a natural product and irregularities, pith, coloring, etc. is part of that naturalness. If my antler pens do not turn (pun intended) out perfectly round I just leave it that way, it is part of the 'antler thing'. Will suit some tastes and not others. Keep it up.
