After reading the replies I thought you might want to edit your post to answer any questions.
Most importantly the fact that the inlay was not my idea.
I have been intrigued with spirals and glue ups since I first started turning pens so I thought this would be a good chance to give a try at both.
I figured if you had any questions you would e-mail me direct.
Recently there were two posts that got me to thinking,(dangerous situation)
One was about turning antler with a large core(porous pith).
I sometimes run across that in antler and just "wing it as I am finishing it.
I received a large trunk of mule deer from one of the guys at the hardware store and
most of it was too big for turning pens,In this case I was able to get a 1"square piece to start with.
Ca is the answer but I don't make too much attempt to fill with dust depending on what I "think" it will look like.
On this particular pen I used thin ,medium and thick CA.(I have a tube of gel but couldn't find it.
The other post was inlaying the spirals.
RPM made the initial post

and Knotty harry did a follow up

I played with it this weekend and discovered"less is better"
In one instance I had as many as 12 pieces of inlay in a 2" blank,of course there are
2 blanks to a pen.
When I turned it the result was much too busy.
This is a slim line,I had a stud from some custom finial stuff I bought,
The clip is from an American Classic from Woodcraft.
I might turn an antler finial might not.
