24k Gold plated bolt action with cottonwood burl blank dyed blue by a buddy of mine.
The blank exploded on me when I was almost down to final diameter when my tool corner caught a tiny knot hole! Thanks to a trick another turner showed me, I cleaned the end of what was still on tube with a parting tool, epoxied the remaining piece of the blank I had trimmed off initially onto the tube and saved the project!
I put that little segmented clear stripe in just to give some separation to the wood not lining up instead of a flush seam, but in the future I think I will stock some small solid colored/white acrylic blanks just to do this segmenting with.
