Sand rather slowly (1000 rpm or less) to keep the dust out of your lungs (let your vacuum do its job) AND to keep the HEAT DOWN!!!! HOT is NOT good with resins or ebonite or lucite or even "natural" products like bones and antlers.
Drilling is not as easy an answer. IF you have very sharp bits, you don't need to go fast, nor press hard. That is the IDEAL situation.
If you find you have to push hard to get the drill through--higher speed will help. But sharpening would help MORE.
