This is a variant of the Teacher's Pen - with 5.56mm NATO (or, if you prefer, 223 Remington) caliber ends. As usual, one end writes black and the other red, so I color-coded the center piece with angle-cut African Blackwood and Redheart.
I think the mini-refills worked out better than the Cross-style refill that I used with 223 Rem previously, so I'll switch to them for future pens of this caliber.
I'm toying with the idea of making a "Drill Instructor's Pen" out of two 7.62mm NATO cartridges - maybe back-to-back. Then I could laser-mark one end "Pass" and the other "Fail".
