I am 90% sure, based on the pics and the fact that you say it is for flooring, that you have what's called "Australian cypress" in my area.
If it is, it will have a very acrid smell, sorta like lignum vitae and sorta like eastern red cedar.
Any way you have it, it makes a very nice pen. I don't have pics (doh!) but I have turned several pens out of the material and I have about 20 blanks at the house I have yet to use. It sands a bit gummy from all the rosin in it, but wet sanding with linseed oil may help cure that.
Anyhow, it is a very fine grained wood and produces a very silky feel. I recommend just to friction burn on a couple coats of linseed oil and then topcoat with carnauba wax (ie, no film build like CA or lacquer) since the wood just feels so nice and silky.
