I want to dismantle the cap of a Jr Gent to replace the black or gold insert. It appears to be a rivet. How do I get it out without trashing the cap? I have tried a nail punch but it didn't budge.

A "complete" transfer punch set is a must have item in the pen shop.

Insert the largest punch that will fit inside the cap without binding into the opening in the cap.

Hold the cap with 2 fingers and thumb of your left hand, while cupping the palm of this hand to catch the button. A correctly sized punch will hold itself inside the cap. One sharp rap of the punch with a small ball pin hammers should easily release the button.

With enought practice, you can remove the button leaving it in perfect condition to be reinstalled if necessary.

By the way, Woodcraft has those transfer punch sets but Harbor Freight sells the same set in a different box for half the price.

Concise instructions and an illustrated tutorial! What more could I ask for? Thanks for the quick reply and for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm headed for my shop to try this out.
