I thought that I had posted the information over here as well but looking back over previous threads I guess I had not.
Anyway several months back I posted asking if anyone had tried using EVA foam used in fishing rods for making custom cushion grips. Well I finally got some and tried it. The material is very soft to turn and sands very well to final shape. Here is a picture of a couple of pens made using this material.
I tried two different ways of making these pens. The first one was glueing the material to the blank drill then turn. This method was a little difficult due to the different densities of the wood and EVA. The second method was to turn the blank to shape then part off the amount of material for the placement of the EVA. After parting off I drilled the EVA then glued to the barrel and wood then turned and sanded to shape.
This material was very easy to work with it just takes a few tries to get used to. If anyone is interested I will provide info on where to purchase this.
