G'day!
It's been a while since I've posted in here. Busy making orders and living the dream. Just had a surgical procedure done so I've got some down time and I thought I'd share a recent commission that has created another 12 orders for the same pen!
This beautiful cross cut river sheoak was 'the' most dense timber I've ever turned. Being cut on the bias also tested the carbide cutters.
The results speak for themselves, just look at the beautiful medullary rays that sweep through the rich red and golden straw sapwood.
10 coats of thick CA (if you want your finish to be like glass, I recommend using thick) and polished up with Mirka polishing pastes.
The section is ebonite with a small segmented copper pearl acrylic for a little difference.
Threads are triple start on ebonite, which fully lines the pen.
The nib is made by Cypress pen co. In Taiwan. Excellent nibs equal in quality to Jowo and Bock.
Thanks for looking, hope you are all well!
Casey.
