My son is graduating from Texas State in 3 weeks with a degree in Criminal Justice, he is going into law enforcement. I have made the bottom of the pen out of a 30-06 shell then powder coated in flat black, I was wanting to make the top out of black acrylic, but I don't want it shiny. My only idea after finishing is to use steel wool to dull the finish to the degree I want. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.

If you use anything in a sanding motion, it will look scratched up. Not a good look.

I have used media blasting with good results. Make sure the media you choose is a fine enough grit to acquire the result you desire.
