The corn cob was stabilized. I came across a new supplier and have been extremely impressed with the quality of the cobs. They are also offered in various sizes, so they can be customized for slim pens as well as cigar pens.
Just before sanding, I applied a couple coats of thin CA to fill the pits, wet sanded, then Novus 2.
