Cleaning ink off components

I recently had a 30 cal bolt action pen returned to me because the ink refill leaked and there is ink all over the inside. The bolt action mechanism is pretty much gummed up and the inside of the tube is coated in ink as well as the tip/nib. My question is what can i use to clean the ink out? I have tried paint thinner since it is the only thing I had on hand at this time but it has had no effect on the ink.

Try 91% rubbing alcohol

Or odorless mineral spirits

methanol (wood alcohol) is the cheapest, and works. use it all the time in my Parker repairs.
