I'm not sure if this process is right or wrong; unique or common. But it works for me and I want to share in case it's interesting. |
The Problem
My scraps are often leftover boards with damaged endgrain that needs to be leveled and cleaned up.
My Solution
(Not rocket surgery, just how I do it.)
Instead of setting up my planer I keep things ridiculously simple by using a barrel trimmer.
This levels the offending side and ensures the top and bottom are parallel.
Thrown on the lathe and rounded these roughed bands are great to have on hand.
Alternate
By stacking pieces you might be able to eke out one last segmented pen from a favorite board of good wood.
Thanks for looking,
Cullen
