I'm mixing the main colors OK-when letting set up a little to add a color swirle it seems to harden from the bottom up to the top. When is the right time to add swirle?

What resin are you using? How much hardener?
What kind of mold are you using? How much are you mixing at a time? It it very hot in your shop or air conditioned?
Are you using a color pigment that might cause the resin to kick over real quick (powdered copper can do that)?
There are way too many variables that can be involved for us to make a guess at-- some more info would give us a better idea of what you're suffering from.
