From a golf course in Phoenix, AZ. The trees on the course where about ten to fifteen feet in height. No leaf identification since this was a fallen branch and very dry. Black dots on end grain and black streaks throughout wood when turned. The pulp wood is also yellowish in color when turned.

Thanks,
Jim

Was it a shrubby tree with multiple stems from the ground up ? The bark and the yellow colour make me think maybe caragana , but I`ve no idea if it has been planted there very much . It does have very high drought tolerance so it may have been .

Most of the trees on the course had a defined trunk and major branches with a higher canopy. I'm somewhat shooting in the dark on this since the branch was old and found on the ground away from other trees with no leaves for identification. After a little research I'm thinking it may be a yellow paloverde.
