My wife found this at a garage sale today. Picked it up for $5 dollars. Thought it was good deal but have no Idea what it is. Pretty lightweight, has heavy finish on top. Any thoughts??[

Ya, trying to upload pics from my phone, not working well, will have to do it later from my pc, sorry.
Don't be upset Rod! Just playin'!

And we do look forward to seeing the picture when you get it uploaded. I understand the frustration with getting pictures loaded, I have had some problems with that lately myself. But you have us hooked so don't wait too long to get us that picture.:)

From what I can see, is a rootball of some nature and comparing its size to the hammer, that thinks is not small....!

It looks someone else has sliced it and coated with some liquid glass finish to enhance the colours so, you may have some extra work to do if you want to cast it however, certain areas are sufficient large for you to cut full size pen blanks from so, have some fun, well worth the 5 bucks.

Cheers

I'm thinking maybe ASPEN, there are a lot of them here. Never seen anything like it. going to make some good lookin pens. Just need to know what it is.

Certainly not a typical aspen root in shape . Aspen root usually has a thin white bark . The bark thickness is correct and the light weight is correct and the wood colour is correct , but the bark colour isn`t in my experience , though the finish may have changed it . However , aspen has a fairly characteristic smell , which might be evident when you cut into the thicker parts .

It is out of this World, it's a shot from the Bubble Horoscope, of a new star forming in the Hemoroid belt, taken with an F1 lens on telescopic stilts. Should make and interesting pen.

From a garage sale I would think someone tried to use a burl for a coffee table or end table and cast a protective coating over it. Was the finish that glossy when you purchased it?
