Burls & Swirls

Yeah!!!:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin: I just purchased my first two Burl & Swirl blanks from Patrick...now I get to wait in anticipation to get them.
However, what methods have you all used to finish these blanks? Can you put CA on Aluminate? Will something else work better? Thanks in advance for your input.

I cannot recommend buffing enough. I got away with that method in the past, but... 3 wheel buffing looks SOOO much better with less effort.

Spend the $60 on the Beall kit. You'll be amazed.

The one I made so far sold before I even left the woodshop on base (made it with a gold JR Statesman RB). I have not made any more yet as I wanted to buy some testors model paint to paint the inside of the blank before gluing in the tube. I just got the paint this weekend, so I will be cranking some out this coming week. I will post the results.

CA works fine on them. (turned 3 from Pat & Lynn)

PAINT THE TUBES!!

I wet sanded mine and then when dry, did the CA. No problems at all

Any "Worthless Wood" derivative needs a film finish of some sort. Treat it just like you do any solid wood blank. I prefer CA.
