This was an experiment but it didn't come out too bad so I figured I would show it.

I used this image because I had the grain offset so you could see the top and the side. They line up reasonably well if you want to see more images click on the link in my signature!

I did the blank myself. I am trying to do that on a lot of my pens now to set myself apart. I purchased a large piece of buckeye burl, cut it up, dried it in an oven for 24 hrs. It was mostly dry anyway. Then in the process of cutting up the piece I had lots of thin strips left so I put a layer of acrylic in my mold then a piece of wood and so on. Then I put that concoction under 60lbs of pressure for a few hours! The buckeye really soaked up the resin too I was surprised. I will do things just a little different on the next one! You will be seeing a lot more buckeye from me for a bit. Also look for some claro walnut and redwood very soon.
