Rhodium/22kt Broadway Nouveau Rollerball Pen kit was finished with a blank of Signature wood. This is the wood blank that comes from an Ebay seller name Joel*. Normally, when you win an auction with him, you get a few extra blanks. Most of the time, I get this signature wood. After talking to a few friends whom are natives of Hawaii, I found out the wood isn't called signature. It is actually rubber tree (Ficus Elasticus), but is also known as Signature or Autograph tree. The leaves of this tree are enormous and have a VERY heavy coat of wax on them. Folks like to write on the leaves while still attached to the tree. Scratching through the wax damages the leaf itself and causes the scratch to turn dark brown. The wax then coats the damaged part of the leaf to avoid further damage. The scratch is then encased in this wax and last a long time.
10 coats of CA Thick glue were applied due to the small checks and pits in the wood. 6 coats of CA Thin glue were applied to fill any small divets. Sanded 1500-12000 with 2 coats of plastic polish. Reinisance wax was applied last and buffed. Comments welcome.
