I found some deep red bloodwood at a local Woodcraft and got to work. I purchased a 24" x 3" piece which gave me many blanks. The stuff looks carmine when turned or freshly cut and then deepens to a rich dark red when finished in walnut oil. It has become a new favorite. Blanks I ordered from a vendor were VERY ANEMIC and had an unacceptable hemoglobin count so I suggest you see the actual before you spend. Luckily they gave me a refund and said keep the wood, but it remains unturned for now.

Yep, I LOVE bloodwood, both the look and the smell when you turn it. I've seen some much less red than others, but I've got a stash of blanks that are very nice uniform deep red. I've seen it for sale sometimes with much less solid, and anemic red color fading almost to yellow... Finishes very nice with just a wax too.. Your pens look fantastic!

Mark, Great Colour in the Bloodwood.
Pens look terrific.
For my taste, I would have been inclined to fill the grain, so that the Finish could be reflective, adding a bit more depth.
Brian.
