I am new to pen turning and wood working in general. I have been aquiring unique pieces of wood faster than I can use it. I am now trying to store the wood in my garage. I have no climate control and the temperature in the garage will hit over 120 degrees during the summer and teens during the winter. Humidity will like wise range from 8-9% during the summer to 40-50% in the spring and fall. How should I store the wood to prevent it from damage during the temperature and humidity extremes?

Immediately wax seal the ends of anything acquired from east of the Mississippi and the west or gulf coasts to minimize end checking . Once they are dry , just let them change with the seasons .

Just make sure you let them "re-acclimatize" before turning... a severely dry blank turned and left indoors may do some odd things on you.
