I need to turn a couple of bullet cartridge pens that are black on top. Would like to use wood. I have not seen any to compare to. Whats the best wood to use for this type pen.
I got my piece from CSUSA today and turned a sierra elegant beauty from it. Wow, that is nice wood. The first stage of poly is drying now. Hopefully I will be able to finish it this weekend and take some pics.
I agree, Blackwood is a big seller for me and is less likely to crack. Just be sure to wipe down the blank with Acetone after sanding otherwise the oils in the wood will mess up the finish.
I'd agree with using blackwood as well if you're looking for something with a nice grain pattern through it still. If you are just wanting a black material that can get a nice glossy shine to it you could look into black plastics as well.
