I read this in Barry Gross new book;
"using a parting tool in the bevel-cutting mode."

What is a bevel-cutting mode?

Come to think of it, that was Depeche Mode, I don't know anything by Bevel-Cutting Mode. [}]

I believe he means rubbing the bevel on the wood while cutting with the edge. Gives a nice clean cut.

my guess would be with the bevel rubbing as in a shearing cut, versus the point on centerline, pushed straight in, scraping cut [?]

He might be getting the supposed residueles of the late 60's experimentation that the gov warned us about. Sometimes perfectly sane, and then sometimes....

I agree with Ron. To do this, you usually engage the bevel first (cutting edge is higher and not cutting yet) and slowly pull the handle back and up very slightly until the edge cuts. Note that with the toolrest, the tool is like a fulcrum (see-saw) as you pull and raise the handle, the cutting tip is lowered. If you continue to raise and pull the handle, he cut will slowly change to scrapping mode.

Another note, (if you don't move/adjust your toolrest) you will usually cut higher in the turning with the bevel cutting mode w/ a parting tool.

That's right Dario,
When doing this your parting tool is acting like a skew in peeling mode.
